“Marta’s Suitcase” – The Reunion / Cultural Forum Madrid

Documentary film "Marta's Suitcase" and online talk with its protagonists #OrangeTheWorld

On the occasion of the UN campaign “Orange the World”, KF Madrid initiated an online discussion “La maleta de Marta – el reencuentro” (“Marta’s suitcase – the reunion”) on the topic of domestic violence with experts from Austria and Spain as well as Marta, a survivor. The basis is the documentary film “Martas Koffer” (“Marta’s Suitcase”) by AT director Günther Schwaiger, who lives in ES. In this film, Marta is accompanied through her new life, which she has to spend in a hiding place in southern Spain for fear of her ex-husband. Since its Spanish premiere in 2013 – which was supported by KF Madrid – the film has been internationally recognized as one of the important audiovisual contributions on the topic of violence against women. Now, 7 years after, we want to explore the following questions in the online discussion: How is Marta doing today? Has it been possible to improve victim protection? To what extent has the work with perpetrators changed? What still needs to be done? Discussing: The director, Günter Schwaiger, the protagonist, Marta Angita, as well as the experts Christina Riezler (Deputy Managing Director Gewaltschutzzentrum Salzburg), Harald Burgauner (Männerwelten-Salzburg) and Virginia Álvarez (Amnesty International Spain). The video conference and the link to the film are available (in German and Spanish) on all online channels of the Cultural Forum.
