ACF Lecture: The Gathering Storm Clouds / Cultural Forum London

British-Austrian relations on the eve of the Anschluss

To mark the anniversary of the Anschluss, KF London hosted an online lecture on British-Austrian diplomatic relations prior to March 1938 with recently graduated historian Tim Schmalz and Dr. David Schriffl, head of the History Department of the Austrian Foreign Ministry.
The event covered topics including the Austrian legation’s cultural program, King Edward VIII’s visits to Austria, the legacy of the Habsburg monarchy and Britain’s attitude toward Austria, and the role of the Austrian envoy in London, Georg Franckenstein.

Thanks to the historians’ expertise, the audience was able to gain a good insight and overview of the latest research on Anglo-Austrian diplomatic relations after the July coup of 1934.
The event was recorded and will soon be available on the KF London website.
